I have over ten years of experience working across primary and secondary schools, supporting pupils with a wide range of emotional, social, communication and additional support needs.
Dramatherapy offers pupils a safe and creative way to communicate, explore feelings and build relationships. Sessions use play, story, movement, objects, role and imagination alongside conversation. Pupils do not need experience of drama or performance.
This approach is particularly suited to pupils who find spoken communication difficult, including children and young people with complex additional support needs.
How dramatherapy supports pupils
Dramatherapy provides space for pupils to:
- Express thoughts and feelings without relying on words
- Develop communication and connection
- Explore relationships and social experiences
- Build confidence, choice and agency
- Process change, loss and difficult experiences
- Develop emotional awareness and regulation
- Experience creativity, play and enjoyment
Support available
Individual dramatherapy
Regular one-to-one sessions provide a consistent therapeutic relationship. The work responds to each pupil’s communication style, interests, needs and pace.
Dramatherapy groups
Small groups support communication, shared attention, confidence and connection. Each programme has agreed aims based on the needs of the pupils and school.
Short-term programmes
Focused programmes address areas such as transitions, emotional wellbeing, communication, relationships and confidence.
Staff consultation
Consultation helps staff understand the therapeutic process and support pupils between sessions. Clear boundaries protect each pupil’s confidentiality.
Working with your school
Provision begins with a conversation about your pupils, current support and intended outcomes.
Schools and organisations commission work for a term, an academic year or a defined pilot programme.
